This sculpture competition will include a mandatory pre-event safety meeting and metal selection period. This meeting will be conducted on Friday, May 9, 2008, one week prior to the actual competition. Professional teams will meet at 5:30PM. Amateur teams will meet at 7:00PM. Both meetings will take place on the BTC campus in the new Morse Center in an upstairs classroom which will be posted at that time. This meeting (or an acceptable pre-arrangement) prior to the event is mandatory!

Preliminary Competition Details

Each team will be assigned their own workstation. Each workstation will consist of two welders (one SMAW and one GMAW), an oxy-fuel cutting torch, and the scrap metal the team has previously selected. Several plasma cutters and miscellaneous tools will be made available in a centrally located area for use by all teams.  Each team will be responsible for bringing their hand tools.  This includes: grinders, extension cords, clamps, hammers, lifting devices, ladders, rolling carts, dollies, work tables, jigs, etc. Individuals must also supply their own personal protective equipment (safety glasses, ear plugs, welding helmets, face shields, etc.).

Note: BTC will accommodate electrical tools only; compressed air will not be available for pneumatic tools.

Teams may not bring any outside raw or prefabricated materials to be included as part of their sculpture. Only supplied metal from our authorized scrap pile may used for inclusion in sculptures. Teams may bring paint, oils, clear-coats, waxes, pumps, or motors if these are necessary elements of their finished sculpture. Contact the organizers if you have additional questions regarding these rules.

Each team will have 8 hours to build and complete their sculpture. All sculptures must be in a finished state, ready to be installed, with a base and fixture accommodations. A panel of three community members will judge each piece based on;
(1) Aesthetics
(2) Quality of Workmanship
(3) Adherence to Rodeo Theme
(4) Durability and Safety
(5) Appropriateness for Public Display.

Details and questions will be discussed at the Safety Meeting on Friday, May 9th.
